BREAKING: Calgary Flames Captain having desperate comments after last night defeat.

After some tough luck and bad breaks in games 1 and 2 during their opening round playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks, it looked as if things were finally going to play out in their own favor for the Calgary Flames. Then…the unthinkable happened. The Flames squandered a 4-1 lead to lose 5-4 in overtime in front of a stunned home crowd. The Flames are now down 3-0 and, judging by their postgame comments, seem defeated already

Calgary Sun beat writer Eric Francis wrote an early obituary in this morning’s newspaper stating simply, “Ducks 3. Flames 0. Series over.”

Goaltender Brian Elliot, who had been steady down the stretch, looked uncertain and surrendered at least two questionable goals. “I didn’t feel I played very well. I let the team down a little bit. It’s tough to lose off a bounce like that. You want to help the team more than you hurt it. It’s tough to swallow right now. The guys spotted four goals, and we should win a game like that.”

It remains to be seen how many games the Flames can string this series out for, but not too many fans or analysts are giving them much of a chance. In fact, judging by their comments, it seems the Flames themselves have even given up on their season.
