Breaking: Canada’s pre-Olympic roster features 5 former Canucks
Keystone Press

With NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly officially stating earlier this week that the league has no plans to participate in the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympic Games, Hockey Canada has ultimately decided to move forward with a group of the “very best” non-NHLers available for an exhibition tournament later this year.

Among the players included on the team’s preliminary rosters are four former Vancouver Canucks: Mason Raymond, Derek Roy, Andrew Ebbett, Linden Vey and Brandon McMillan. Also, former Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins will be behind the bench when Team Canada takes to the ice in defense of its 2014 gold medal.

I bet you haven’t heard some of those names in awhile… How discouraged are you with this news? So far, Canada’s rosters look like a B level team at best, maybe one worthy of a Spengler Cup championship, but certainly not Olympic gold.
