The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly closing in on an agreement with a top candidate for their vacant head coaching position. Travis Green has been rumored to be the team’s top candidate since the moment they relieved former head coach Willie Desjardins of his duties earlier this month and it appears that that’s exactly who they’ll choose to move forward with.

Hockey’s most trusted source, TSN insider Bob McKenzie, reported earlier today that it’s expected Green will be announced as the team’s next head coach within the next two days.

Green has been the head coach of the Canucks AHL affiliate in Utica for three seasons and led them to a Calder Cup final during his tenure. Prior to that he was a top coach in the WHL and led the Portland Winterhawks to a league championship. It had been speculated that if the Canucks failed to promote Green to their vacant NHL position, that he’d likely move on to another NHL team as there has been no shortage of suitors for the talented young coach’s services.
