Breaking: Canucks sign 25-year-old goalie

The Utica Comets, AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have announced that they’ve signed 25-year-old goaltender Michael Garteig to a one-year AHL contract.

The native of Prince George, BC turned pro last season with the Comets and the ECHL’s Alaska Aces after four seasons of college hockey for Quinnipiac University and four seasons of Junior A hockey split between the Powell River Kings and the Penticton Vees.

The 6’1, 183 lb goalie played in just eight games with the Comets last season, but played 22 games with the Aces compiling an 11-6-2 record along with a .906 Sv% and 3.11 GAA.
