Very curious move.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed their big trade acquisition from last offseason, but they have only secured a short-term deal.

According to a report from the Canucks official website, the team has agreed to a $3.5 million dollar deal with 25-year-old defenseman Erik Gudbranson, however the deal is only for a single season.

While the Canucks will retain control of Gudbranson following the one-year deal, as he will remain a restricted free agent at the end of this deal, one has to wonder why they signed him to so short a term.

In his 30 games for Vancouver last season Gudbranson put up a plus minus of -14, and the Canucks may have been concerned about a deal with a longer term, or it may be Gudbranson who was looking for a big bounce back year that will allow him to earn more on his next contract.

How Gudbranson players in the 2017-2018 NHL season could have a major impact on the future for both player and team.
