BREAKING: Caps cancel practice, Holtby skates anyway.

After a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night at Air Canada Centre, Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz decided to cancel his today’s scheduled practice to give his team a rest. It appears however, that at least one member of the powerhouse Caps either didn’t get the memo or chose to ignore his coach’s decision.

Despite stopping 30 of 34 shots last night, Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby took to the ice this morning and was joined by a few of his teammates for an informal skate. While Holtby saw a ton of action last night against the Leafs, he didn’t look to be at his best and sometimes had difficulty making routine saves, his .882 Sv% can attest to this. Maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise then that the Vezina Trophy candidate was eager to fine tune some things on the ice this morning.

In 4 games this postseason Holtby has two wins and two losses with an inflated 3.01 and .907 Sv%. If the Capitals are going to get past the Leafs and continue to do some damage in the playoffs, they’ll need him to be better.
