Breaking: Caps finally pull the trigger on Burakovsky trade!

Some fans felt something was up.

On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals tendered a qualifying offer to forward Andre Burakosvky, meaning that the Swedish forward will retain his salary from last season, $3.25 million, which is higher than one would expect with his production.

Burakosvky had a frustrating year, but managed to finish the season on a higher note, but his name has been involved in trade chatter since December.

The trigger was finally pulled on Friday as the Capitals reportedly shipped out Burakosvky to the Colorado Avalanche. A source close to the situation has told The Athletic that the return from Colorado is two picks and a minor league player who is not a prospect.

It was revealed that the Caps acquire forward Scott Kosmachuk, and second and third round picks in 2020.

Last season, Burakovsky played most of the time on the team’s rarely-used fourth line, recording a career-low 11:08 average ice time. He was scratched for nearly two weeks of games in December as trade rumors swirled.

He finally managed to matched his output from the Capitals’ Stanley Cup-winning season, 12 goals and 13 assists, but has yet to show he can step up his game.

This change of scenery could do the trick.
