There is a pause, a moment of worry and Washington Capitals are looking to see if the information is true.

The Washington Capitals are kicking off their playoff journey tonight in the first game of the series against the Carolina Hurricanes and team insider Mike Vogel has just reported that the team has recalled goalie Ilya Samsonov from the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League.

At first, fans started to wonder if there might be something wrong with star netminder Braden Holtby, as the Capitals are counting on him once again to secure the pipes and lead the way far into this postseason.

However, Vogel quickly calms them down, explaining that the Capitals are simply following standard procedure by calling up Samsonov during the playoffs. It seems the Caps preferred to be save than sorry.

He also adds that there is nothing to worry about with talented backup Pheonix Copley.

The 22-year-old Samsonov has posted a record of 19-14-5 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .896 save percentage in 36 games with the Bears this season. He has recorded three shutouts and posted a 10-0-1 record from Jan. 12 through Feb. 27.

Let's hope the Capitals are not jinxing themselves with calling up Samsonov.
