At last year's trade deadline, the Washington Capitals acquired Michal Kempny who became a key player in their championship run and has remained an important piece to the roster as they attempt to win back to back Stanley Cups.

However, the defenseman will have to watch from the stands...

The Capitals have just announced the 28-year-old blue liner will be out four to six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn left hamstring.

The poor defender suffered the injury during a March 20 game with the Tampa Bay Lightning.Things got out of hand in the second period when Cedric Paquette ran Michal Kempny hard from behind into the boards and the Capitals defenseman did not appreciate it.

Kempny retaliated with a punch to the face which made this fight escalate to a full blown line brawl. He did not return to the game and was seen leaving without putting any pressure on his left leg.

In 71 games this season, Kempny tallied six goals and added 19 assists. Last spring, he appeared in 24 playoff games, scoring two goals and adding three assists.

He will be missed.
