Breaking: Captain and veteran of 1500+ NHL games officially retires
Keystone Press

Shane Doan has officially called it quits. The 40-year-old veteran for 1540 NHL games has officially announced his retirement according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Bambadoro.

Doan, of course, will be remember for being the longtime captain of the Phoenix and then Arizona Coyotes, with whom he spent his entire 21 year career.

Rumors had him connected to the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars and New York Rangers this offseason, but Doan’s insistence on keeping his family in the Phoenix area was a priority for the big winger.

Doan will undoubtedly go down in history as his team’s all-time greatest player. He’s  the Coyotes all-time leader in games played (1,540), goals (402), assists (570) and points (972). Good luck in retirement and congratulations on an outstanding career, Shane!
