Sad news to report.

The death of former National Hockey League player Marek Svatos was in fact the result of a drug overdose according to a statement from the Douglas County Coroner’s Office on Monday.

There were a number of drugs found in Svatos' system including codeine morphine and anti-anxiety medication, something that proved to be a lethal combination last month. Svatos had a long history of abuse and was having some troubling thoughts at the time of his death.

From Tom McGhee of the Denver Post:

"He had a history of heroin use and had gone through drug rehabilitation, according to the coroner’s report. He also had suspected depression, prior suicidal ideation, and “recent life stressors.”

The former seventh round pick obviously had his demons, and we hope that he has finally found peace.
