The Arizona Coyotes have decided to get into the post-holiday action on Friday, making a one for one trade.

The Coyotes have acquired AHL forward Giovanni Fiore from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for AHL defenceman Trevor Murphy.

The 22-year-old Fiore has tallied six goals and five assists over 23 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. The Quebec native has only one game of NHL experience, with the Ducks. Last season, he suited up for a game, but did not manage to write his name on the scoresheet. He did see 7:53 of ice time and accrued a minus-1 rating in his only NHL outing.

As for Murphy, the 23-year-old blue liner has posted five goals and eight assists over 27 games with the Tucson Roadrunners in 2018-19. He netted one goal and added two assists over eight games with the Coyotes last season.

This sounds like good news for Fiore, who could now have an easier time breaking into the big league with the Coyotes.

According to the information provided by Cap Friendly, the salary cap hits for the two players is nearly equal should either be recalled to the NHL with their respective new teams. Fiore’s cap hit is $701,667, while Murphy’s is $715,000.
