Breaking: Defenseman officially banned from participating in World Cup of Hockey.

Former National Hockey League defenseman Slava Voynov may have avoided some of the consequences of his actions when he went back how to Russia, but on Monday the National Hockey League made it clear they would not be forgiving Voynov anytime soon.

Despite what was reportedly intense pressure from the Russian Hockey Federation as well as attempts at negotiating the inclusion of Voynov, the Russian Federation finally caved, announcing today that Voynov had officially been replaced on their roster.

The announcement came through Russian Hockey's English branch of social media, and they officially stated that the Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Nesterov will be taking his place at the World cup of Hockey.

It's unclear what came of the negotiations between the two sides, but at the end of the day the NHL got their way. and it's unlikely given Voynov's crimes he will be getting much sympathy from fans of the league.
