Sunday evening’s matchup against the Calgary Flames marked the Detroit Red Wings’ fourth consecutive loss. Their current record stands at 8-10-1, and the injury bug continues to bite the team that is 24th in goals per game (2.32) and 18th in goals against with an average of 2.68 allowed per game.

24-year-old defenseman Alexey Marchenko will be sidelined for a few weeks with an upper-body injury, according to general manager Ken Holland. Evidently, this is bad news for a team whose blue line has had more than its fair share of issues in recent years. Fans continue to wonder when help will be acquired in order to fix this problem, with names such as Dougie Hamilton’s being mentioned in trade rumors. As it stands, there is no word on whether the team will proceed to recall anyone from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Marchenko posted five assists in 19 games thus far, including a helper in last night’s 3-2 loss at the hands of the Flames at the Joe Louis Arena.

More details to follow soon.
