Connor McDavid is about to get paid to the tune of $100 million, if the latest reports are to be believed. The 20 year-old Edmonton Oilers superstar is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st and one Oilers insider, TSN reporter Ryan Rishaug, suspects that the young phenom’s next deal could pay him $104 million over eight seasons.

Yowza. That’s a lot of bread. The deal would be one of the largest in NHL history, but it’s hard to argue that McDavid hasn’t earned it. He’s already won the Art Ross Trophy, the Ted Lindsay Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy. He’s arguably the best player in the world and at just 20 years of age, the best may be yet to come.

It will be interesting to see how negotiations develop and whether or not Rishaug’s predictions come true on July 1st. It’ll also be interesting to see how a McDavid extension affects negotiations with the Oilers other young star, Leon Draisaitl. But, one thing’s for sure, with McDavid and Draisaitl both locked into long-term deals, the Oilers will be an offensive threat for years to come.
