The Detroit Red Wings have trimmed their roster earlier and have assigned defenseman Dan Renouf to their AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 22-year-old blue-liner, who measures 6’3” and weighs 205 lbs, did not participate in any of the Red Wings’ regular season games thus far.

This might indicate that the healthy scratch will spend time honing his skills in the American Hockey League and may also hint at a possible return to National Hockey League action for long-serving defenseman Niklas Kronwall, who has spent the last few weeks on the injured reserve. While Kronwall has not practiced with the rest of his teammates, his status on the short-term IR signifies that he should be ready to go sooner than later.

More updates on Kronwall to follow.
