Breaking: Disappointed Lundqvist heads to Europe seeking victory.

Less than two days after being eliminated by the Ottawa Senators in the second round of the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs, New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is headed to Paris, France to play for Sweden in the IIHF World Championships.

Sweden has struggled through the tournament’s first three games going 1-1-1 with goaltenders Eddie Lack and Viktor Fasth in goal. However, the addition of King Henrik automatically launches Sweden back into medal contention. The 35 year-old netminder has represented Sweden at the World Championships in both 2003 and 2004, winning silver both times. Of course, he also backstopped Sweden to their Olympic gold medal in 2006 and silver in 2014.

It was an up and down season in New York for Lundqvist that, obviously, ended too soon. Rangers fans hope that he can provide Sweden with a spark and come back to New York with a renewed outlook on the game for 2017-18.
