Breaking: Disgraced coach gets new head coaching job

Former Florida Panthers head coach and general manager Tom Rowe has found himself a new head coaching job after falling from grace in the NHL.

The news comes out of Switzerland, as reported by Bieler Tagblatt of Swiss Hockey News.

"Rowe confirmed to the newspaper that he will have a meeting with EHC Biel's management on Saturday: 'I will likely sign the contract then.' "

Tom Rowe, the successor to Gerard Gallant as head coach of the Florida Panthers, was not seen favorably by hockey pundits around the league, especially given the circumstances under which Gallant was fired.

Gallant had brought the team to the playoffs the previous year, leading the Atlantic division with its franchise-best season. Rowe subsequently took over the general manager job from Dale Tallon, and overhauled the team despite its strong season. They had an awful year - with Gallant being unceremoniously fired and Rowe taking over as interim coach.

He himself was fired following the season, stripped of all duties. He's been considered as a special advisor to Tallon this season, although his role is very limited.

He will have a chance to revitalize his career in Switzerland - they must only hope that he doesn't bring the same fate to EHC Biel as he brought to the Panthers when he took over.
