Breaking: Duchene responds to criticism from NHL legend Peter Forsberg.

Colorado Avalanche star forward Matt Duchene came under fire when former Colorado Avalanche forward and National Hockey League legend Peter Forsberg suggested he deserved to be benched and traded.

While Duchene could have used the opportunity to vent some of his frustration at his current situation, he instead showed tremendous poise and class in his response. 

“I saw it,”said Duchene as per Mike Chambers of the Denver Post. “I don’t think it was meant to be anything personal. He and I have a great relationship. So I’m not taking it personally. I think he’s just commenting on the situation. A lot can get lost in translation.”

Duchene added: “He was a guy I idolized growing up. I still have the same admiration and respect for him as a player and a guy — he was a guy I looked up to a lot as a kid.”

Duchene not only showed class, but he also showed a great deal more respect for Forsberg than he received from the NHL veteran. It will be interesting to see how this plays with fans in Colorado and the rest of the NHL.
