Breaking: Duchene reveals how badly he wanted trade
KeyStone Press

The Matt Duchene saga is finally over, at least for the time being, as the Ottawa Senators may be forced to trade their star acquisition as early as next season if they can't meet his eventual contract demands.

That being said, the story is over with the Colorado Avalanche, and we finally know the motivations behind Duchene's trade demand.

The former 3rd overall pick from 2009 was supposed to be one of the big pieces in Colorado that brought that team back to glory, instead, they never even won a playoff round. With 428 points in 586 games, Duchene definitely left his mark, but the organization could never put the pieces together to take the team to another level.

Meanwhile, the opportunity on a team like Ottawa is very enticing for Duchene - he feels strongly that he has another level to his game, and will be ready to show it as soon as this weekend against his former team in back to back games in Sweden.

Duchene left a note for Colorado and its fans on Twitter this morning. A consummate professional, he shows no hard feelings.
