The Winnipeg Jets have announced that top prospect Brendan Lemieux will make his NHL debut Friday night against the Minnesota Wild.

You could tell the kid can't wait to finally follow in his father's footsteps.

"I'm excited, and I've been waiting my whole life for this," said Claude Lemieux's son. "It's been a dream since I watched my dad play in the NHL to play, and I'm just really blessed to have the opportunity to be able to do it."

"It's different for a player's kid. There's a lot that makes it easier when your dad plays in the NHL and paves the way, then there's some things that are more of a challenge. It's been hard on my mom, but I'm sure they're happy that it's all been worth it. It's just one game. A lot of guys have played one game. I obviously want to stick and help this team win. But you have to start somewhere."

Claude Lemieux played 1,215 games in the NHL - posting 786 points. But he was most famous for his rough style, he took 1,777 penalty minutes throughout his career.

His son Brendan has been following in his footsteps. The 2014 31st overall pick collected 135 penalty minutes last season in the AHL for the Manitoba Moose.

After earning 5 points in 4 games, Lemieux now has the chance to prove his worth in the NHL.
