This season was close to a disaster for the Canucks. With injuries, illnesses and poor play, the team finished close to the bottom of the league's ranking. Needless to say, a lot of blame is to be distributed and the first victim fell to the chopper bloc today

We just learned that coach Willie Desjardins has been fired from the organization.

It was the third season for Desjardins behind the Canucks bench and his second in a row with a losing record. His only presence in the Playoffs ended up in a quick exit following the first round back in 2014-2015.

Desjardins has been head coach of hockey teams since late in the '90's, but his stay with the Canucks was his first shot at the NHL level. It will be interesting to see whether he can find a new team to coach or his he becomes persona non grata in the league from now on.
