** LATEST UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM - MCDAVID HAS A HEARING **

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid might have scored the overtime winner  to snap a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night, the star player appears to be in hot water.

At the end of the first period of the contest, McDavid moved in close to the boards and seemed to deliberately catch Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy in the head with his shoulder.

You read correctly...

Leddy was visibly shaken up as he attempted to get up with the help of the official. He seemed shocked that the Oilers captain was behind the hit. McDavid was penalized on the play.

The young star was just back in action, after missing a game with a virus on Tuesday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger - while it has yet to be confirmed by the league - McDavid is expected to have a hearing with the Player Safety Department for his actions. A first in his career. However, as we all know how the NHL can be, they might ignore it. After all, it is an isolated incident...

As many people commented on social media, if Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was behind this type of hit, he would be suspended for several games. It remains to be seen what the league will decide to do with a superstar like McDavid when it comes to dirty hit.

We will keep you posted.

IT'S OFFICIAL: McDavid will have a hearing  today for an illegal check to the head on NY Islanders’ Nick Leddy...
