Leafs Nation held their collective breath on Tuesday night when they saw defenseman Morgan Rielly head back to the locker room after awkwardly crashing into the boards during a match up against the Buffalo Sabres.

Rielly, the team's star defenseman, appeared to be in considerable pain as he struggled to limp to the locker room, and when news quickly followed that he would not return, some fans feared the worst.

Now Jonas Siegel of the Canadian Press has provided the first significant update on Rielly since the injury, and the news appears to be good relatively speaking. According to Siegel the Leafs have listed Rielly as day-to-day and while he will sit out thursday's contest again the New York Rangers, but he has not been ruled out of the Saturday night match up against provincial rivals the Ottawa Senators.

The main takeaway here is that this injury does not appear to be long-term, and unless the Leafs are seriously downplaying the injury, Rielly should be back in the line up sooner rather than later.
