Breaking: Flames pick up veteran defenseman, sign him to two-year-deal.
Keystone Press

Yesterday rumors circulated that the Calgary Flames had worked out a two-year two-way deal with veteran defenseman Matt Bartkowski, however the Flames would announce later in the day that they had merely agreed to bring in Bartkowski in for a PTO.

Bartkowski would join the Flames that very day for practice and it seems that was more than enough to convince Calgary to in fact sign Bartkowski something the team has now officially confirmed.

The Flames official announcement:

The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Matt Bartkowski to a two-year, two-way contract which runs through the end of the 2017-18 season.

Thus far this season Bartkowski has played entire at the American Hockey League level with Boston Bruins affiliate the Providence Bruins. He appeared in 34 games for the AHL Bruins picking up 2 goals and 10 assists before parting ways with that team.

It's unclear at this time if the Flames intend to use Bartkowski at the NHL level, or if they merely saw the opportunity to add depth in the form of an NHL veteran to the organization.
