Breaking: Flyers goalie signs in Sweden

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that the team’s third round selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, goaltender Felix Sandstrom, has signed an extension with Brynas IF of the Swedish Elite League.

The 20 year-old Gavle, Sweden native is an intriguing prospect for the Flyers and looked good in 22 games with Brynas in 2016-17 putting up a 2.25 GAA and .908 Sv%. He started the majority of the team’s playoff games as well, suiting up for 13 games, but earning only six victories.

Next season the young goaltender is expected to take a major step in his development and take over the full-time starter’s role after splitting the previous two campaigns with veterans starters Bernhrd Starkbaum and David Rautio. How Sandstrom factors into the Flyers’ long-term plans will largely be a result of his play this season in Sweden’s top league.
