The Philadelphia Flyers reportedly have selected their new general manager.

According to a breaking news report from Philadelphia Flyers insider Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer the Flyers have selected former Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher as the next general manager of their franchise. It is in my estimation an excellent pick as Fletcher has shown a willingness to make high risk aggressive moves including the acquisition of goaltender Devan Dubnyk who has been excellent for the Wild for several years now.

Carchidi is an impeccable source when it comes to the Flyers but he has also obtained comment from a "high ranking Flyers executive," who has confirmed the news.

"For me, and I think Chuck has done the same, I think it’s how you treat your people, so everybody is included as to what’s going on," said the executive as per Carchidi. "The people who work for you have to know you trust them and want their opinions and care about them -- and it will be returned every time. Chuck will have that."

Now I may simply be reading too much into these comments but the "how you treat your people, so everybody is included" part of this statement seems like a poorly veiled shot at former general manager Ron Hextall when you consider the information that his leaked regarding his time as GM since his shocking firing at the end of November.

“He’ll do a great job in Philly,” the Flyers executive said. “Everybody’s going to be happy to work for him. Everybody’s going to be happy he’s there. His reputation, which is pretty easy when you talk to scouts and all those who have worked for him, is top-level. Everybody enjoyed working for him. Everybody wanted to work for him. Everybody felt part of the team.”

Fletcher's first task as the new general manager of the Flyers will be to restore a winning culture within the Flyers organization, one that will hopefully repair the trust that has reportedly been shattered in the wake of Hextall's tenure as Flyers' general manager. Additionally he will have to be extra diligent when it comes to resolving the organizations long standing goaltending issues, something he managed to do for the Wild the the aforementioned move involving Devan Dubnyk.
