Breaking: Flyers lose yet another goaltender to injury.

Unreal.

The Philadelphia Flyers simply can't catch a break.

The Flyers organization has been dealing with a terrible goaltending situation for what now seems like forever and unfortunately for their fan base the situation may have reached peaked absurdity during the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season. The Flyers have been decimated by injuries in goal this season losing both goaltender Brian Elliott and goaltender Michal Neuvirth to separate injuries this season, one coming very shortly after the other.

Elliott has been plagued by injuries already this season and at this stage of his career there has to be some real serious concern in the Flyers organization regarding his long term viability as the team's number one goaltender moving forward. His latest injury occurred in mid November and is expected to keep him sidelined until at least December, although the Flyers have not officially discussed a potential time frame for his return as of yet.

Neuvirth is another goaltender who has been plagued by the injury bug in recent years, although he has been injured only once this season while playing for the Flyers. The bad part of that is that he has only played in a single game this season for the Flyers and it was a bad one, a performance in which Neuvirth gave up a very ugly 6 goals against the New York Islanders. Neuvirth's return is also set for early December although the Flyers have also not confirm an official timeline for his return at the time of this writing.

Although a return to December may not sound too bad in either of these cases, given today's news December is going to see like a very long time away from the perspective of the Flyers organization. On Saturday the Flyers officially announced that backup goaltender Alex Lyon is also injured and is currently dealing with a lower body injury that will keep him out for some length of time. Although the Flyers have not provided any kind of timeline for his return, Flyers' general manager Ron Hextall did announce that the team is currently viewing Lyon's injury as a day to day type of injury.

Some fans have long wanted Flyers prospect Carter Hart to get a shot at the NHL level and this may finally be the series of events that leads to that. That being said Hart has been pretty bad at the American Hockey League level this season so that may not be as exciting a prospect as those fans believe it might be.
