The Philadelphia Flyers had warned their fans they would be busy this offseason and new general manager Chuck Fletcher has yet to disappointed.

After signing coveted free agent forward Kevin Hayes to a seven-year lucrative deal and acquiring two top defensemen in Matt Niskanen from the Washington Capitals, and Justin Braun of the San Jose Sharks, it seems like Fletcher might have more tricks up his sleeves.

Indeed on Wednesday, the Flyers announced that they have signed free agent forward Chris Stewart to a professional Try-Out contract to attend their 2019 Training Camp.

Stewart was selected in the first round, 18th overall by the Colorado Avalanche back in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Last season was rocky for the 31-year-old right winger, who played for the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League. He collected six goals and 13 points in 23 games in the EIHL.

He was expected to spend the 2018-19 season with the Slovan Bratislava in the KHL, but did not end up reporting to the team, citing “serious family problems.”

The NHL journeyman compiled 10 goals and six assists over 54 games between the Wild and Flames in 2017-18. While many expected him to have hung up the skates, it seems like Stewart has more in the tank.
