Breaking: Flyers sign former 1st round pick
Keystone Press

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have announced that signed former Calgary Flames 1st round draft pick Leland Irving to an AHL contract.

The 29-year-old goaltender last played in the NHL during the 2012-13 season with the Flames and has split the past few campaigns in the Finnish SM-liiga, KHL and AHL. Last season he played 35 games with KooKoo Kouvola of the SM-liiga putting up a 2.18 GAA and .923 Sv%.

Despite being a first round pick with a strong pedigree, Irving has only managed 13 NHL games during his 10 year pro career. Given the Flyers’ goaltending depth with Brian Elliott, Michael Neuvirth, Anthony Stolarz and Alex Lyon, it seems unlikely that Irving will factor into the Flyers’ plans for this upcoming season, but, as always with the Flyers crease, you never know what could happen.
