The Philadelphia Flyers have placed forward Matt Read on waivers. The 31-year-old winger has gone pointless in four games this season and finds himself on waivers for the second time in just under a month.
Read has hit the 20 goal plateau twice in his career, including 24 goals and 47 points in his rookie season back in 2011-12. Since then he’s had a difficult time mustering more than 10 goals in any campaign, save for the 22 he potted in 2013-14.
Last season Read managed just 10 goals and 19 points in 63 games with the Flyers. While he seems to be tapped out offensively, is there a chance that another team takes a flier on him? His $3.25 million salary is off the books this offseason, meaning he could be a short-term, rental pickup for a team seeking depth.
