One National Hockey League franchise has lost one of it's former first round draft picks for nothing.

On Monday Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Arizona Coyotes had claimed now former Winnipeg Jets forward Alex Burmistrov off of the waiver wire.

Burmistrov was drafted by what was then the Atlanta Trashers in the first round(8th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and, while it was clear that the Jets were looking to trade the 25-year-old center, many were surprised when the Jets made the decision to place him on waivers.

Burmistrov never lived up to his draft pedigree and his best season came all the way back in the 2011-2012 season when he had 13 goals and 15 assists in 76 games with the Jets. Since returning from the Kontinental Hockey Leagye his offensive production has dipped, and with a strong group of young forwards the Jets likely felt Burmistrov was expendable.
