Breaking: Former NHL captain expected to announce his retirement.

A former National Hockey League captain is set to announce his official retirement according to a very good source.

George Richards of the Miami Herald is now reporting that the former Florida Panthers captain Olli Jokinen will officially retire as a member of the Florida Panthers next Tuesday. The ceremony is expected to take place before the match up between the Panthers and New York Rangers, a team that Jokinen also played for during his lengthy career.

Jokinen's incredible career spanned 1231 NHL games but was marred by a lack of playoff success, largely through no fault of his own. In fact Jokinen holds the NHL record for most games played without a playoff appearance with 799. It may be a record that will never be broken as many NHL careers don't even last that long.

The 38-year-old center will end his career with 321 goals and 429 assists for a very respectable 750 career points. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
