Breaking: Former Oilers and Habs goalie signs PTO with new team

This just in, former Montreal Canadiens draft pick, and member of the All-Time Hockey Name Team, Hayden Hawkey has reportedly signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Washington Capitals.

This report according to NCAA and Providence Bruins insider Mark Divver, check it out:

The 24 year old Hawkey was originally drafted in the 6th round (177th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens but was traded to the Edmonton Oilers last offseason for a 5th round pick. The native of Parker, Colorado recently wrapped up his NCAA career with Princeton putting up an incredible 1.88 goals against average and .921 save percentage in 41 games in 2018-19.

Hawkey will be in tough to earn a job at the Capitals' training camp. Pheonix Copley and Ilya Samsonov are expected to duke it out for Braden Holtby's backup position, meaning that Hawkey will likely be in competition with Vitek Vanecek for the backup position with the AHL's Hershey Bears.
