Defenseman Ryan Sproul has signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Laval Rocket, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens.

Defenceman Ryan Sproul signs a PTO with the Laval Rocket.

Sproul counts as a Veteran Exempt player. He was with Calgary on a PTO at training camp. After being released he signed a PTO with the Marlies, but was released earlier today.

At 6'4", he is yet another imposing figure on the Rocket D squad, addressing a weakness at RD.

Sproul was released from a PTO with the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) earlier today and was also on a PTO with the Calgary Flames during their training camp.

Prior to this season Sproul has played 44 games split between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. Originally drafted in the second round (55th overall) by the Red Wings in the 2011 Entry Draft, Sproul played parts of seven seasons in the Wings organization before being shipped to the Rangers for forward Matt Puempel. Once Sproul’s contract expired this past offseason, he wasn’t offered an extension from the Rangers.
