Breaking: Former Stanley Cup Champion is retiring from hockey.

A former Stanley Cup Champion will officially be retiring from the game of hockey. 

According to a breaking news report from Carolina Hurricanes beat writer Andrew Schnittker of Tech Sports, former Carolina Hurricanes forward Erik Cole has agreed to sign a one-day contract with the Hurricanes, a move that will allow him to retire with that team. 

Cole of course was part of the Hurricanes team that won the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2005-2006 National Hockey League season, and it's no surprise that he would choose to retire with the team that brought him the greatest success. 

Cole also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings, appearing in a total of 892 NHL games over the course of his career. He recorded 265 goals and 265 assists for a total of 532 points over his time with all the aforementioned organizations.
