Breaking: Forward refusing to sign with team that drafted him, will be free agent.
Keystone Press.

One has to wonder if forward Jimmy Vesey may not have started a trend by choosing not to sign his entry level deal with the team that drafted him, and instead picking his own destination as a free agent.

On Wednesday news broke of another young forward, this time 22 year old Thomas DiPauli, refusing to sign with the team that drafted him, and instead electing to wait for his opportunity at free agency.

DiPauli is a former fourth round draft pick, selected 100th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 National Hockey League Draft, and it's believed that Washington's depth at the forward position, as opposed to any conflict with the organization, was a major motivator behind this decision. As a result according to ESPN's Craig Custance DiPauli is not ruling out the possibility of signing with the Capitals.

He's coming off a nice season with the Fighting Irish, one that saw him put up 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 37 games this season. Like Vesey, he will officially be a free agent on August 15th.
