Another massive deal in free agency.

We have another absolutely massive contract in this summer's free agent frenzy.

The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they have come to terms on a new deal with former first round pick and restricted free agent forward Mark Scheifele who is coming off a breakout season, and a gold medal winning performance on the international stage.

It's a massive contract, one that will give Scheifele the max term of 8 years and one that carries a heavy price tag, $49 million total for an average annual value of $6.125 million. The Jets undoubtedly could have committed to a much shorter term, but they obviously believe that having a highly skilled young center like Scheifele to potentially play alongside Patrik Laine, for the long term, is in the team's best interest.

This is once again a decision made possible as a result of the Jets decision not to re-sign former captain Andrew Ladd, which continues to look like one of the better decisions the Jets have made as of late. While this deal is a gamble, if it pays off they buy a whopping four years of unrestricted free agency, and in the long run could look like a bargain for Winnipeg.

This signing will undoubtedly draw comparisons to massive deal signed by former first overall pick Nathan MacKinnon today.
