We have a very scary situation to report this evening.

According to a number of breaking news reports coming out of the Ontario Hockey League tonight we have just had a major incident behind the bench of the Hamilton Bulldogs. Although it is still unclear at this time what has happened reports are now saying that associate coach and former member of the Tampa Bay Lightning Dave Matsos has collapsed behind the bench and is believed to have lost consciousness. We don't know exactly what is going on but whatever it is it has to be serious because the Ontario Hockey League has halted the game that was being disputed by the Bulldogs against the Barrie Colts and Matsos is currently being rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Matsos seemed to be going through the motions of a normal game when he suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed behind the Bulldogs bench. Thankfully though there were medical staff present at the game and they reacted with incredible speed and ferocity and began treating Matsos immediately, hopefully preventing any serious damage in the process. That being said though it does not look good as the current associate coach was carted out of the arena on a stretcher and placed in an ambulance prior to being rushed to the hospital.

Although the game is currently being held in Barrie in front of the Colts' fans everyone in attendance was extremely respectful as the medical staff tended to Matsos and escorted him out of the building. Obviously our primary concern here is the well being of Matsos and our thoughts go out to him and his family at this time, and I hope that he makes a full recovery regardless of what it is that is currently ailing him.

Update: The Barrie Colts have just announced some very good news, it now appears that Matsos has regained consciousness and remains on route to hospital and although this is likely still a serious situation this is very good news. Unfortunately the Colts have not shared any details regarding what may have caused his collapse but I'm sure we'll be able to provide those to you in short order, right now the main concern is Matsos' recovery.

Stay tuned for more details.
