The New York Islanders have just confirmed that they have re-signed Stephen Gionta to a one-year, two-way contract.

The 33 year-old, who spent 10 years with the New Jersey Devils before joining the Islanders, will be entering his twelfth professional season this year. He is the younger brother of Sabres' captain Brian Gionta

The center-man played 296 games in the NHL, amassing only 56 points; whereas in 381 AHL games with Bridgeport, the Albany Devils, the Lowell Devils and the Albany River Rats, he totaled 64 goals and 85 assists for 149 points.

Last season, he suited-up for 26 games with the New York Islanders, a stint during which he amassed 6 points.
