The Vegas Golden Knights are quite aware they need to shed salary and managed to do exactly that with a trade on Friday.

The Golden Knights have traded defenseman Colin Miller to the Buffalo Sabres in return for a second round pick in 2021 and fifth round pick in 2022.

Miller has three seasons remaining on the four-year, $15.5 million contract he signed with Vegas last season and carries a $3.875 million cap hit.

Last season with the Golden Knights, Miller posted three goals and posted 29 points in 65 games. He also added one goal and three points in six playoffs games as the Golden Knights were eliminated in seven games against the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the postseason.

The 26-year-old blue liner ended up in Vegas two years ago after he was exposed by the Boston Bruins in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft where he was selected by the Golden Knights.

Miller, who was selected 151st overall in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, is being traded for the second time of his career. He was first moved back in 2015 when he was traded along with goalie Martin Jones and the 13th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Milan Lucic.
