Breaking: Great news at Leafs' morning skate!

This is great news Toronto Maple Leafs fans will enjoy reading.

While Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott was back on the ice on Friday morning, he was joined by fellow blue liner Jake Gardiner. The two defensemen went through skating drills together before the club's practice.

Leafs insider TSN's Kristen Shilton pointed out some exciting news about the return of Gardiner on the ice:

"First time at least that I have seen him skating since the Leafs announced he was out with a back injury on Feb. 27."

Gardiner was said to be out week-to-week when he suffered a back injury nearly a month ago. The 28-year-old has tallied two goals and is a plus-17 in 60 games this year.

There is still no time table for his return.

Dermott has been battling a shoulder injury, but has been able to skate on his own for over a week. He last played in an NHL game on Feb. 27 where he was a plus-1 in 17:05 of ice time. He has collected a total of  four goals and 13 assists in 60 games so far this season.

The Leafs are hosting the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
