Oh boy fans in Montreal are about to have a nervous breakdown.

There are now reports that the Montreal Canadiens have just made an emergency recall of young backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren and the word going around at this time is that he is being called up to replace Habs star goaltender Carey Price. Needless to say given Price's rather catastrophic injury history this is a major sign of concern for the Habs although we do not know at this time why Price has been taken out of action. Price's most recent injury came in the form of a concussion that kept him out for an extended period of time, but his history of knee and lower body injuries is the real source of concern for fans.

We expect that the Canadiens will provide an update in the next few hours but at this time we are fumbling around in the dark in regards to how serious this situation may be, or may not be. Price of course missed all but 12 games in the 2015 - 2016 NHL regular season due to a serious injury and although he bounced back the following year he took a big step back in the Habs most recent season and the last thing he needs now is another injury.

Update: Good news Habs fan this situation does not appear to be particularly serious as the Montreal Canadiens have just provided an official update. The Habs have confirmed that Lindgren has been called up on an emergency basis to replace Carey Price, although they also confirmed that Price has not been injured. According to the Habs official statement Price is out with a virus and it appears that he has the flu, if that is indeed the case he should only be out for the next couple of days at the most.

The extra rest could prove good for Price who has gotten off to another rocky start this season with a 2.32 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Those are not bad numbers to be fair but as the highest paid goaltender in the National Hockey League the expectations on Price are that he will play better than he has thus far. Lindgren hasn't fared any better in the American Hockey League this season with a 2.39 goals against average and a .875 save percentage over his three games this season.
