Breaking: Head coach calls out his big trade deadline acquisition for poor playoff performance.

This can't be a good feeling when you know that your are headed into a summer where you were expected to earn the largest contract of your National Hockey League career.

NHL defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has been on the receiving end of a fair bit of criticism for his performances in the post-season, but now even his own head coach has felt the need to publicly express his disappointment with the play from the Washington Capitals' big trade deadline acquisition.

"I know he can play better," said head coach Barry Trotz before criticizing his abysmal -7 rating in the playoffs.

The problem for Shattenkirk is that not only is he hurting the Capitals playoff chances, but he's likely also doing some serious damage to his value as a free agent this summer. Shattenkirk reportedly turned down a number of deals that would have paid him upwards of $7 million per season, and one has to wonder if he will still have the cache to draw that kind of money now.

Making matters worse, it sounds like Shattenkirk may be in the dog house after a big third period mistake.
