With the Detroit Red Wings set to turn things around starting tomorrow night against the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center, they will have to do so without 29-year-old forward Darren Helm who is set to miss a minimum of six weeks, as we reported yesterday. The team will count on Tyler Bertuzzi, who was recalled immediately following the Grand Rapids Griffins game versus the Texas Stars.

Though many had predicted that Bertuzzi would get the call-up, it’s nearly impossible to read into head coach Jeff Blashill’s mind when it comes to his goaltending tandem. Defensive woes have not necessarily helped either Petr Mrazek or Jimmy Howard find consistency, even if it can be argued that Howard has the upper hand through seven games with a 1.80 goals against average as well as a .943 save percentage.

Despite going only 4-3 thus far, Blashill has named Howard the starter for tomorrow night.
