There was a time when NHL goalies played without a mask...

I simply cannot imagine how one would have survived what Winnipeg Jets star goalie Connor Hellebuyck has in tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Jets netminder had to momentarily leave the game after he took a slap shot from star sniper Nikita Kucherov off the mask! The slapper, an absolute cannon according to Sportsnet's John Shannon, landed right between his eyes. The puck cut his forehead, however, Hellebuyuck managed to exit the ice on his own power and headed straight to the dressing room.

Some people believe he might have had to undergo the concussion protocol, however, he was back on the ice moments later to take his job back from backup Laurent Broissoit.

We are just glad to see that Hellebuyck survived this speedy cannon to the face!
