Breaking: Help between the pipes now available on waiver wire!
KeyStone Press

After voiding his contract with the Nashville Predators and deserting the National Hockey League to head to the KHL, goalie Marek Mazanec expressed the desire to return to the NHL and landed with the New York Rangers

On Tuesday, the Rangers decided to place Mazanec on waivers, and he will surely draw some interest.

Several teams are seeking help in between the pipes as injuries seem to be targeting netminders around the NHL at this time. The Edmonton Oilers are without starter Cam Talbot and the Pittsburgh Penguins have lost Matt Murray for weeks to come.

Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers is awaiting the results of an MRI and the Calgary Flames do not have the right backup for Mike Smith

We could see a battle for Mazanec on the wire.

Mazanec was taken in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Preds. The Czech goaltender only appeared in 31 games in his three-year career with Nashville. His last win was back in 2014, during his rookie year when he played in 25 of those 31 games, seeing that start Pekka Rinne’s season was shortened by injury. Mazanec only appeared in six more games over the last two years.

In 31 NHL games for the Preds, Mazanec posted an 8-13-4 record with a less than stellar .895 Sv%.
