The Calgary Flames have announced that they’ve re-signed defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon to a one year contract, reportedly worth $650,000 annually.

Wotherspoon was originally drafted by the Flames in the second round (57th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and has split his pro career thus far between the Flames and their AHL affiliates in Abbotsford, Adirondack and Stockton. In just 30 NHL games the 6’2”, 210 lb defender has managed just five assists and four penalty minutes.

Wotherspoon was a highly-touted defender coming out of his junior hockey career with the Portland Winter Hawks, where he led the team to three consecutive WHL Finals. He has also represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championships.
