Breaking: Horrible news for Jimmy Howard after a great start to the season.

While the fact that Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is often injured is becoming a cause for concern, it's hard to blame the veteran netminder for this one.

On Tuesday night Howard was run over in his own net by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Erik Condra as well as rookie defenseman Nick Jensen who was making his National Hockey League debut. Jensen appeared to attempt some kind of tackle on Condra who was in Howard's crease, but the result as a disaster and Howard having to be helped off the ice.

Now the Red Wings have announced that Howard has already been placed on seven day injured reserve, a move that indicates this will be a significant injury and could have Howard out for the long-term.

This is bad for multiple reasons, the first and most obvious has been Howard's outstanding performance this season, truly nothing short of a bounce back year for the goalie. The second and perhaps most serious concern is how this will impact his trade value as Howard is one of the players many believe will be traded before the expansion draft.
