Breaking: Huge update on Corey Crawford.

The Chicago Blackhawks have received some very good news, but there has been a very mixed reaction to the announcement.

According to a report from Chicago Blackhawks insider Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Blackhawks had a very special surprise on the ice on Saturday when veteran National Hockey League goaltender Corey Crawford made his return to practice. It's terrific news for a Blackhawks fan base that was understandably worried about the long term health of the team's star goaltender after he suffered yet another head injury earlier this season.

Crawford of course notoriously missed the majority of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season when a concussion left him with a number of devastating symptoms that took a significant toll on his health and his life off the ice as well. Crawford would eventually return from that devastating injury but when he suffered another concussion this season there were calls for him to sit out the rest of the year for safety reasons, and even some who suggested that he should think of his long term health and step away from the sport of hockey altogether.

That being said though today's development would appear to indicate that Crawford has absolutely no intention of following either of those pieces of advice, with a return to practice suggesting that he intends to return to action sooner rather than later. In fact Crawford was not merely skating or taking reps in practice today but was actually facing shots from members of the Blackhawks coaching staff on the ice, again another sign that he may be much closer to a return than anyone had initially projected.

It is perhaps for this reason that the reaction to today's news has been met with a mixed reaction from the Blackhawks fan base. While I am convinced that every single Blackhawks fan is happy to see Crawford recovering well from his most recent concussion, I also believe that many of those fans are much more concerned with his safety than the help he could potentially bring to what has already been a pretty bad season for the Blackhawks. It will be very interesting to see how the team handles him moving forward.
